SASEhack INFORMATION – DON’T DELETE!

Dear participants of SASEhack:

Howdy! We are less than 36 hours away! On behalf of the organizing team, we are excited to see what you all can come up with in just under 20 hours of hack time. Below you will find some guidelines and expectations for the hackathon.

Schedule: here

Please note on-site check in for SASEhack will be in the lobby of the Hyatt Regency Dallas Hotel located at 300 Reunion Blvd, Dallas, TX 75207. Please DO NOT show up to The Grove before the hackathon begins. We will be opening SASEhack at the Hyatt and moving to The Grove immediately afterwards.

Venue:

Floor Plan: here

Exterior and Parking: here

Walking Map: here (approx. 9 min/0.4mi)

The wi-fi password and various access codes can be found in the links above. A SASEhack or Grove staff member will assist with access to the venue when doors are locked. If you need assistance, please call or text (214) 991-6651.

Code of Conduct: here

All attendees, sponsors, volunteers, and staff at our hackathon are required to follow the code of conduct found above. Organizers will enforce this code of conduct throughout the event. We expect cooperation from all participants to ensure a safe environment for everybody. If you have witnessed or experienced any transgressions of this Code of Conduct, please find a staff member or email get in contact with Edward Li at eli@smu.edu. Seriously, let’s all just be friends with each other.

Well-being:

We will be serving breakfast and lunch on Saturday. No other meals will be served. So come fed. If you have any dietary restrictions and have not notified us one way or another, please immediately reply to this email. We will have a lot of snacks and drinks for you to take as you hack. Yes, there will be Red Bull. Bring a water bottle! SASEhack will be providing water you can fill your personal bottles with to help us reduce plastic. Don’t forget to take breaks or catch some z’s while you hack.

Things to bring:

A laptop. A charger. Any hardware you might want to use for your hack. A water bottle. Toiletries and maybe a change of clothes. Anything else you need for you to do you. No drugs. No alcohol. No firearms. Nothing illegal. If it’s questionable, don’t bring it. Smoking is fine, but only on the balcony.

Judging: DevPost

Last but not least, the challenge topic at SASEhack is hack for social impact. How will your solution improve society at large? Choose a non-profit or for-profit social enterprise or organization and create improvements that can contribute to or amplify their success. If an organization doesn’t come to mind, just focus on a major social issue. All submissions need to be submitted by 4PM Saturday on DevPost. That’s a hard deadline. Please see DevPost for all further judging criteria.

TL; DR. Click the links to find info about the schedule, venue, parking/transportation, walking, and code of conduct. The golden rule is NO STUPID STUFF. Bring a water bottle! Breakfast & lunch Saturday + snacks all around. If you haven’t already, tell us if you can’t eat certain things. Bring things you need to hack. Also bring things that you need to function. Don’t bring things that are illegal or could hurt people. Build a hack for social innovation. Hacks are due 4PM Saturday on DevPost. You snooze, you lose.

If you’ve got any other questions we haven’t answered before we see you Friday evening, please feel free to call or email anyone on the organizing team below:
